Concept explainers
To Explain: Heating a magnet weakens it.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A magnet is a substance which attracts other magnetic materials. A magnet has two poles-North pole and south pole. Magnetic field lines emerge from north pole and enter in south pole. A moving charged particle constitutes a magnetic field around it. Each atom acts like a tiny magnet.
A domain is a region in which there is a uniform magnetization i.e. the magnetic moments of atoms are aligned in same direction. A material is said to be magnet whenits domains get aligned. On heating, these domains get disoriented and hence, the strength of a magnet weakens.
Conclusion:
Due to heating, a magnet weakens because the domains get misaligned.
