Summary Introduction
To review:
The key features of the gut immune system.
Introduction:
The mucosal surface of the gut harbors a vast variety of microbes. The innate and adaptive immune responses along with the gut-associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) control the number and type of gut microbes. 70% of the immune system cells are present in the gut wall. The gut is the primary site for interaction between the immune system and the foreign antigens of the host that are ingested along with the food.
