Chapter 24, Problem 10RQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
Isotype switching and the process of achieving antibody diversity.
Introduction:
Primary response occurs when an antigen gets in touch with the immune system for the very first time. During this response, the B cells are proliferated into the antibody-secreting plasma cells and memory B cells. The B-cell is programmed to produce primary antibody response and as a result, the pentameric IgM (Immunoglobulin M) molecule is synthesized and secreted. Later, a process called isotype switching occurs and the IgG antibody is produced from the predominant antibody type rather than IgM.
