Plasma membrane protects the cellular content from the outside environment. It is composed of lipid bilayer, and many proteins and carbohydrates are present in it. The lipid bilayer present in the plasma membrane containsphospholipid thatis an amphiphilic molecule containing both hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts; the membrane is held together by the hydrophobic interactions.
