The plasma membrane of the cell is made up of the lipid bilayer. Many types of proteins are also embedded in the plasma membrane. These proteins are mainly glycoproteins that mediate various cell activity. To function successfully, plasma membranes also facilitate the transporting of molecules across the cell membrane by passive and active transport.
