Question
Chapter 11, Problem 20RQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
Whether the following statements aretrue or false.
Ionophores form channels through which ions flow.
Ionophores require energy.
Ions may diffuse in either direction.
Ionophores may cause voltage gates.
Ionophores transport all ions with equal ease.
Introduction:
Ionophores integrate themselves into the inner mitochondrial membrane to form ion channels. This ends up uncoupling the electron-transport chain from ATP synthesis. Due to their function and properties, they are studied as a part of both the electron transport chain and lipid biochemistry.
