Lipids like phospholipids, cholesterol, and triacylglycerols are essential for every cell and tissue. However, unlike carbohydrates, they cannot directly be transported through blood. To overcome this, a protein molecule attaches to the lipid and lipoprotein formation takes place in the liver. Lipoproteins can be transported through blood and can be taken up by the cells. There are mainly 5 types of lipoproteins, according to their density.
