The F factor and its contribution to gene exchange.
Introduction:
Conjugation is the method of transfer of genetic material between two bacteria through a special structure called a pilus. Some proteins are also transferred along with DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Special transferable plasmid is required for pilus formation and DNA export. An example of such transferable plasmid is a fertility factor or F factor in E.coli (Escherichia coli).
