The process by which the foreign DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is introduced into a bacterial cell by a viral vector is called transduction. The viruses that infect the bacterial cells are called bacteriophage. Transduction is the common tool used in molecular biology techniques to introduce the foreign genome into the host cell.
