Concept explainers
Interpretation :
The folding of protein made up of 200 glycine molecules and 200 aspartic acids must be explained.
Concept Introduction :
Proteins have secondary structure which can be alpha-helix or beta sheet.
Answer to Problem 4E
The protein will have alpha helix structure in which aspartic acid will be on the outside and glycine will be on the inside.
Explanation of Solution
Primary structure of protein represents the amino acid sequence whereas secondary structure represents the folding of the protein. In general, amino acids with polar side chain prefer to be on the outside so that these can interact with water. Non-polar hydrophobic group containing amino acids prefer to be on the inside.
