Smell of a compound is related to the shape of the compound particularly the arrangement of atoms.
Explanation of Solution
Different molecules have different structures, arrangement of atoms and functional groups. So different molecules have different binding pattern with nasal receltors. All molecules can’t bind with the same receptor as the structural complimentarity is not posible for all molecules. If the shape of a molecule is changed by incorporation of some moieties then it will not fit to the preveous receptor. Thus, smell of a compound is directly linked to the molecular shape of the compound.
