Explanation of Solution
Alloy can be defined as a mixture of two or more elements. They have metallic properties and at least one of the elements is metal. In daily life, it is difficult to find iron, copper, silver, gold, and other metals in pure form. They are always used as alloys. Some of the alloys are brass, bronze, steel, etc. Thus, the alloy is formed to enhance the properties of metals. It also helps in making the metal more ductile. It is done by combining the best properties of different metals. For example, iron can be easily corroded when exposed to the atmosphere but steel which is an alloy of iron and copper cannot corrode easily thus, it is used to make utensils.
Therefore, alloys are more useful than pure metals because they have greater strength and resistance to corrosion as compared to metals in pure form.
