Chapter 43, Problem 17TYK
Summary Introduction

Introduction: T lymphocytes are also known as T-cells, which are primarily produced in the bone marrow. It is then transported to the thymus where the maturation and multiplication of T-cells take place. It is divided into three types based on its surface receptor. They are helper T cells, cytotoxic T cells, and regulatory T cells. The matured T cells are passed to the tissues of the lymph nodes where it gets activated upon entering of the pathogen.

The following are steps in the cell-mediated inflammatory response. Put them in the correct order. 1. Activated macrophage cells release cytokines. 2. Antigen is engulfed and presented by a macrophage cell w/MHC II complex. 3. The TH1 cell's CD4 protein binds to the MHC II complex. 4. Phagocytosis and inflammation occur. 5. Th1 secrete TNF-alpha and other cytokines which activates the macrophage. A. 3, 4, 1, 2,5 В. 2, 3, 4, 5, 1 C. 3,5, 4, 1, 2 D. 2,3,5, 1, 4
The following events elicit an antibody response to a T-dependent antigen (Ag). Put them in order and indicate which one would happen third (of the five answers as shown, not necessarily number 3 on a lecture slide or text diagram). O Ag-presenting cell displays Ag fragments next to self (MHC) molecule on its surface Helper T cell (TH) activates an appropriate B cell Helper T cell (TH) specific for the Ag binds to MHC-Ag complex B cell differentiates into a plasma cell; secretes antibodies specific for the Ag Ag-presenting cell phagocytizes Ag-carrying microbe
Place each events number listed below on the correct part of the “stages ofillness” graph (picture attached) to demonstrate the relationship between your body’s immuneresponse and your symptoms. Event Numbers: 1. The B cell clones itself into many plasma cells that are producing tons ofantibodies specific to the antigen. Memory B cells form.2. Plasma cells stop producing antibodies and memory B cells remain, ready foranother exposure to the antigens3. Antibody titre begins to decline4. The helper T-cell docks with a B cell shows the antigen to the B cell5. The antigen is engulfed by a macrophage and is present to a helper T cell
