Question
Chapter 25.3, Problem 4CP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The structural formulas that represent a species that has two or more resonance structures are to be identified.
Concept introduction:
A resonance structure is one of two or more Lewis structures for a single molecule that cannot be represented accurately by only one Lewis structure.
Resonance structures are possible if atleast one double bond and one charged group arepresent in a species. It involves delocalization of electrons between the charged atom and doubly bonded atoms.
The total charge and the number of different atoms and electrons remain the same in resonance structures.
