Concept Introduction:
Alcohols have high boiling points due to the presence of hydroxyl group in them. The hydroxyl groups result in the formation of hydrogen bonding in alcohol.
As the number of carbon atoms increases in alcohol, the boiling point increases. If the number of carbon atoms is less, the hydroxyl group is more available to form hydrogen bonding with water molecules and the compound will have high boiling point.
