Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The general name given to the molecule acted on by an enzyme needs to be determined. The meaning of an enzyme to be specific for a molecule needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
An enzyme is composed of proteins. This is a substance that performed as a catalyst and catalyst and maintaining the
The enzymes are fixed for a particular reaction.
Answer to Problem 24A
The substrate is acted on by an enzyme, and structures of enzymes are fixed so they are used particularly for specific reactions.
Explanation of Solution
An enzyme acts as a catalyst for the biochemical reaction. They act on the substrate and formed a complex that is enzyme-substrate complex and after interactions of a particular site with the enzyme is called the active center. The enzyme and substrate are attached and forms an ES complex at the active center. So enzymes are specific for particular molecules.
The molecule acted with enzyme is named as substrate, and every enzyme is specific for a particular substrate according to its active site.
