The coiled helical and pleated structure is representing the secondary structure of proteins. This structure is made up of two antiparallel strands. The secondary structure of proteins is composed of hydrogen bonds formed between atoms of the polypeptide backbone.

Answer to Problem 13A

The secondary structure of proteins are made up of beta sheets, these sheets are interacts with anti-parallel chains of amino acids. The chains are bounded with other chains by the hydrogen bonding.

The muscles and neurotransmitter of the body contains this type of proteins structure.

Explanation of Solution

In the secondary structure of proteins the sheets are formed its coiled shape. In the structure alpha and beta pleated sheet, two or more segments of a polypeptide chain are arranged in a linear manner and forming a sheet-like structure held together by hydrogen bonds. This sheet interacted with other one present in opposite direction and formed a coiled structure.

The valine is composed of beta sheeted proteins which present in the muscles and stimulated and prevented from the damage.

Conclusion

The secondary structure of proteins are form helical structure with the help of beta sheets. The arrangement of beta sheets is known as pleated structure of proteins.
