Question
Chapter 19, Problem 12bCP
Summary Introduction
To review:
The following:
1. The action of thyroxine on the basal metabolic rate.
2. The reason behind increased tendency to gain weight and less resitance toward cold stress in people with hypothyroidism.
Introduction:
The anterior pituitary gland releases the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) which is the reason for secretion of thyroxine or tetraiodothyronine (T4). Thyroid also releases triiodothyronine (T3). Normal level of thyroxine is required for the proper functioning and development of central nervous system in children.
