The structures located at the top of both the kidneys are termed as adrenal glands. These are endocrine glands that secrete various hormones such as glucocorticoids. Hydrocortisone is one of the glucocorticoid that is also known as cortisol. The adrenal cortex secretes hydrocortisone when it is triggered by ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone).
