The structures of the A and B antigens.
Introduction:
Blood group antigens are carbohydrates that are found attached to either lipids or proteins. The information for the production of these is stored in DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). There are threetypes of blood group antigens, namely, A, B, and H, where H also acts as the precursor for the other two antigens. The chain of H-antigen is modified on the addition of specific sugars in the cases of antigens A and B.
