Acapsid is a protective coat of virus or virion (virus presentextracellularly) that protects its genome during transmission into the host. It is composed of proteins. The proteins are in the form of several oligomeric structural subunits called protomers. The virus could be symmetrical or asymmetrical or combined aspects of both.
