Virus are host dependent acellular organisms. They do not have active metabolism and possess minimal genes for replication, transcription, and translation. They hijack the host cell machinery to reproduce by either integrating their genome into the host cell genome or actively producing multiple virions and releasing them by lysis or budding off from the host cell.
