Chapter 6, Problem 2RQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
The process of entry of viral genomes into bacterial, plant, and animal cells.
Introduction:
Viruses are acellular organisms that do not possess their own cellular machinery. They infect host cells to replicate their genome and pack the newly replicated genome copies into virion particles. Each virus is specific for its host cell and can infect as well as replicate only inside the specific host.

Compared with cells, what is unusual about viral genomes?
The second step in viral replication is entry. For bacteriophage, entry usually
involves:
O a) direct entry of the nucleic acid into the cell.
Ob) phagocytosis.
c) membrane fusion mechanism of entry.
d) receptor-mediated endocytosis.
