Chapter 11, Problem 3TQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
The advantages and disadvantages of usage of viral vectors for the treatment of haemophilia.
Introduction:
Hemophilia is a genetic disorder characterized by the absence of clotting factors like factor VIII and IX in the blood. They are inherited in an autosomal X-linked pattern. The symptoms of this disorder include profuse bleeding upon minor injury, easy bleeding, and risk of internal bleeding in joints and the brain.

For example, you may want to discuss: the distribution/expression of the relevant cell surface receptor or other factors modulating viral entry, or you may want to focus on the environment in a specific niche that makes it conducive for infection by the virus. For coronaviruses, it is more likely to find evolving mutations in the portion of the spike protein than the nucleocapsid protein. Mutations in the genetic code for the spike protein will produce 3D changes that are more likely to affect vaccine efficacy than changes to the nucleocapsid protein code. The nucleocapsid protein interacts with viral nucleic acid specifically whereas the spike protein interacts with the host protein non-specifically.arrow_forward
