Introduction:

Beta-oxidation is the breakdown of fatty acids into acetyl-coenzyme A molecules that enter the Krebs cycle or the citric acid cycle and generate a large amount of energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) molecules. NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydrogen) and FADH2 (flavin adenine dinucleotide hydrogen) are released, which are the energy carriers.
