Concept explainers
To compare:
Sarcomere, myofibril and myoglobin.
Introduction:
Osteoblast and osteoclast are the two main cells participating in those progresses.
Explanation of Solution
A myofibril is a rod-like unit made up of cells known as myocytes that contain several chains of myofibrils. Proteins like actin, myosin and titin hold myofibrils together. Contraction of muscles takes place with the sliding of thick and thin filaments over each other.
The proteins like actin, myosin and titin are categorised in thick and thin filaments that repeat themselves through the whole length of the myofibril in different sections called sarcomeres.
Myoglobin is a protein that binds iron and oxygen with the muscle tissue of vertebrates. It facilitates oxygen diffusion. Myoglobin is related to hemoglobin that is the oxygen transport protein in RBC’s.
Myoglobin is the one that doesn’t belong to the others as it is an iron and oxygen binding protein whereas the other two are muscles cells.
