To discuss:
Difference between osteoblasts and osteoclasts.
Introduction:
Bone and cartilages are types of connective tissue. The Skeleton system of the human body is made up of bones of different shapes and sizes. Long bones are present in arms and legs. Wrist bones are short bones. Skull is made up of flat bones. Vertebrae and facial bones are irregular bones.
Explanation of Solution
Osteoblasts: osteoblasts are the cells that are responsible for bone formation. Osteon is a group of osteoblasts organized together with the bone. Osteoblasts are the products of mesenchymal stem cells. They synthesize osteocalcin and osteopontin which are the main constituents of the organic matrix of bone.
Osteoclasts: osteoclasts are the cells that are responsible for breaking down bone tissue. These help regulate calcium levels in the blood. These cells are found on the surfaces of the bone which undergoes resorption. Osteoclasts are found in shallow depressions called resorption bays (howship’s lacunae).
Osteoblasts cells are bone-forming cells whereas osteoclasts are the cell that breaks down bones.
