Concept explainers
To compare:
Actin, melanin and myosin.
Introduction:
Melanin is a pigment that brings colour to the skin, hair and eyes whereas actin and myosin are the proteins helping in muscle contraction.
Explanation of Solution
Actin and myosin both are proteins whereas melanin is not. The colour of the body depends on the amount of melanin in the body. Melanocytes are the skin cells that make melanin. The number of melanocytes are same in everyone but the secretion of melanin may differ.
Myosin is a protein that helps in contraction of muscle whereas actin is a protein that forms filaments that helps in contraction of muscles.
Melanin is a pigment and actin and myosin are the proteins. So, melanin is the one that doesn’t belong to others.
