The use of botulism toxin for the treatment of tetanus.

Introduction:

Spastic paralysis refers to increased tendon flexes and tonic spasm caused by the toxin of Clostridium tetani. Flaccid paralysis refers to a decreased muscle tone caused by Clostridium botulinum. The structure of both the toxins is similar and comprises two peptides containing heavy and light chains. These chains are attached by a disulphide bond. The heavy chain has a binding and translocation domain, while the light chain has a catalytic domain.

Students have asked these similar questions
Both C. tetani and C. botulinum produce neurotoxins as VFs. Differentiate the effect of the toxin and how this leads to different types of paralysis in these diseases.
Why does tetanus result in spastic paralysis in human hosts?
