Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is caused by unprotected sexual contact. Various STDs require direct contact between mucous membranes as the causative agents are prone to drying. The common STDs are syphilis, AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome), gonorrhea, chancroid, genital herpes, chlamydia, and genital warts.
