Summary Introduction
To discuss:
The gut microbiome of the colon; the composition and sources of flatus.
Introduction:
The large intestine or large colon is named because of its large diameter and not because of its length. It receives about 500 mL of residues daily that are not digested. The large intestine consists of about four segments, namely the colon, cecum, rectum, and the anal canal. Water absorption takes place in the intestine; waste residues are stored here and removed during defecation.
