Stomach, a muscular bag, is a J-shaped structure that lies in the upper abdominal cavity next to the diaphragm. The stomach is a major organ in the digestion process, which functions as a storage organ for food. The food is mechanically broken down into smaller particles and is liquefied. The chemical digestion of fat and proteins starts in the stomach.
