Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The salivary glands secrete saliva that helps in maintaining the moisture in the mouth and also for chewing and swallowing food. The enzymes present in the saliva begin the breakdown of food in the mouth. Lingual lipase and lysozyme are the enzymes seen in the saliva that moisten the mouth when you are fasting. The intrinsic (minor) salivary glands and extrinsic (major) salivary glands are the two types of salivary glands.
