To Explain:
The reason behind why the self inductance of a coil a major factor in the case when the coil is in an AC circuit while a minor factor when it is in a DC circuit.
Answer to Problem 53A
Asan alternating current always change in the magnitude and direction and a direct current eventually becomes steady and after some time, there is no changing magnetic field, that’s why the self inductance of a coil is a major factor in the case when the coil is in an AC circuit and a minor factor when it is in a DC circuit.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The self induction of the coil in AC circuits is a major factor whereas not so important in DC circuit due the difference in the type of current it receives.
Self-induction can only work when the induced magnetic field keeps on changing or the magnetic flux keeps on changing with time. The continuous change in the flux takes place in Alternate current and not in Direct current.
Therefore, self-induction coil becomes necessary in AC circuits but not in DC circuits.
Conclusion:
Self-induction coil require AC current to work and not DC current.
