Chapter 23, Problem 9EQ
Summary Introduction

To review:

The advantage and disadvantage of the use of bacterial artificial chromosomes (BAC) and cosmids vectors in the construction of contigs. Also, the contig that is most preferred.

Introduction:

A set of overlapping segments of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) of a particular chromosome is called a contig. This overlapping segment sets assists in the study of the genome with the help of physical map. Vectors form an integral part of the assembly of overlapping segments. The vectors preferably used are BAC andcosmids. A sole advantage of using both the vectors is that both can be circular molecules having a site of origin.

name  the six different types of vectors?
Contigs are often made using BAC or cosmid vectors. What are theadvantages and disadvantages of these two types of vectors? Whichtype of contig would you make first, a BAC or cosmid contig? Explain.
