Concept introduction:
In chemistry, overlapping of orbital takes place to form bonds with the atoms. At least two orbitals must overlap with each other to form a bond. The examples of orbitals are s, p, d, f orbitals.Sigma bond involves the head to headoverlapping of two orbitals; on the other hand, pi bond involves the side to side or lateral overlapping of two orbitals.
The instability of cyclopropane, a cyclic organic compound can be explained with the help of orbital overlap picture.
