Acyl CoA dehydrogenase starts the process of beta-oxidation of fatty acids by catalyzing the firsts step of the process. It introduces a trans double bond between the 2nd and 3rd carbon of the acyl-CoA molecule. Beta-oxidation is the process of degradation of fatty acids, which occurs inside the mitochondria of the cell.
