Explanation of Solution
Surfactant, also known as a surface-active agent, is a chemical, such as a detergent, that when applied to a liquid, lowers its surface tension, and increases the spreading and wetting capabilities of the liquid.
Detergents used for cleaning commonly contain surfactants. Surfactants, as their name suggests, create action on the surface would be cleaning to assist trap dirt as well as removing it.
The water-loving (hydrophilic) heads of surfactants point toward the water, while the water-repelling (hydrophobic) tails point upward in a layer at the water-air interface. As a result, the surface tension of the water is reduced.
