Introduction: Blood is transported through a complex network of vessels called the vascular system. Blood vessels are classified into three main types, arteries, veins, and capillaries. An artery carries pure blood or oxygen-rich blood. The vein carries the impure or oxygen-poor blood. Capillaries are the small vessels that link the veins and arteries. Arteries are branched into small arterioles and veins branches into venules.
