The cells containing both rpsL+ and rpsLR genes are resistant to streptomycin or are sensitive.
Introduction:
The growth of bacteria is inhibited by antibiotics that target protein biosynthesis. Streptomycin interacts with the small subunit of the ribosome. The ribosomal protein S12 is an essential protein that causes it to be resistant to the error-promoting antibiotic streptomycin. The rpsL genes in most of the bacteria prohibit the isolation of streptomycin-resistant mutants.
