Introduction:

Vibrio cholerae which is the causative bacteria for cholera disease is a halophilic, comma-shaped, Gram-negative bacteria. This bacterium has pili along with flagellum at one pole. These bacteria are halophile and hence, can tolerate alkaline medium, whichis usually intolerable for intestinal bacteria. However, Vibrio cholerae is sensitive to acid.
