Bacterial attachment is the first step of pathogenesis. In this process, the bacteria need to escape the defense mechanism of the host. The attachment of the bacteria to the host cell is also called adhesion. Bacteria use strategies similar to the viruses that involve attachment to the host through their capsid or envelope proteins.
