Optically activity of d-glucitol compound is to be checked and the Fischer projection formulae for optically inactive alditols, yielded by D-aldohexoses are to be explained.

Concept Introduction:

▸ Alditols are the sugar alcohols formed by the addition of hydrogen to the monosaccharide. Further, the reduction of monosaccharides (carbohydrates containing single units of sugar molecule) result in the formation of alditols.

▸ The Fischer projection is a way of representing biomolecules with cross formulation of the open chain structures of $\text{D}-\text{Glucose}$.

▸ Compounds that cannot rotate the plane of polarized light are referred to as optically inactive compounds.
