Can an object be increasing in speed as its acceleration decreases? If so, give an example. If not, explain.
Can an object have positive speed and negative acceleration?
Answer to Problem 11Q
Solution:
Yes
Explanation of Solution
Acceleration is considered to be the rate of change of velocity with respect to time. When an object is speeding in a negative direction, then its acceleration is negative is becoming more negative as the speed is increasing.
For example when a car is moving in the south and is gaining speed from 40 km/hr to 50 and then 55 km/hr. The rate of change of in 40 and 50 is more than in 50 and 55 thus the speed is said to be increasing while on the other hand the accelerating is found to be lower in the second time period as compared to the first.
