Chapter 11.6, Problem 3R
Summary Introduction

To review:

The mechanism by which process of apoptosis is regulated.

Introduction:

The regulated cell death is called as apoptosis. It is an inevitable phenomenon that occurs in the cell when it is aged or contains damaged DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). The process of apoptosis is regulated by the proteins of bcl-2 (B-cell lymphoma-2) genes and Fas (first apoptosis signal) ligand or death ligand. These proteins control the internal secretion of mitochondria in case of intrinsic regulation of apoptosis. In case of extrinsic regulation the binding of Fas ligand to Fas receptor leads to signal cascade, which results in apoptosis.
