Introduction:

Crossing over is a process of meiosis that takes place during the late prophase I stage. In this, the genetic material is exchanged within two nonsister chromatids of the homologous chromosomes. Independent assortment is a process that takes place during meiosis. The homologous chromosome pairs are separated into half numbers to give rise to haploid cells. This separation is random.
