Chapter 11.4, Problem 3R
Summary Introduction

To review:

The sample of a given green plant and analyze whether it is a haploid or diploid plant.

Introduction:

Haploid cells are those cells that have a single copy of chromosomes (n) inside the nucleus. They only contain half of the chromosomes. The diploid cells have two whole sets of chromosomes (2n). For instance, the muscle and skin cells are diploid, whereas the sperm and ovum are haploid cells.

Each sperm of a tomato plant contains seven chromosomes. What are the haploid and diploid number for tomatoes?     haploid=7 and diploid=14     haploid=14 and diploid=7     haploid=7 and diploid=49     haploid=3 and diploid=7
The conifer plant has 12 chromosomes. For each of the four stages on the diagram of the conifer life cycle, labelled A-D, identify whether the stage is haploid or diploid, and indicate the number of chromosomes that would be found in the cells at each stage.  Stage Haploid or Diploid? Number of chromosomes found in cells? A     B     C     D
