Introduction:
The pituitary gland is one of the most important endocrine glands of human body. It is roughly 1.3cm (centimeter) in diameter and is also known as hypophysis. This is attached to hypothalamus of brain by stalk like structure called infundibulum. The pituitary gland can be divided into anterior lobe or adenohypophysis and posterior lobe also known as neurohypophysis. Both the lobes have different structure, functions and embryonic origins.Â
