Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
The name of the ionic compound
Concept Introduction:
The charge on the metal cation should be determined as variable or fixed.
When the metal cation has fixed charge, the name of the cation is followed by name of anion.
When the metal cation has a variable charge, the overall anion charge is used to determine the charge on the cation. The name of the cation is given either using Roman numeral (or) suffix “–ous” or “–ic”, followed by name of the anion.
(b)
Interpretation:
The name of the ionic compound
Concept Introduction:
Refer to part (a).
(c)
Interpretation:
The name of the ionic compound
Concept Introduction:
Refer to part (a).
(d)
Interpretation:
The name of the ionic compound
Concept Introduction:
Refer to part (a).
