The proteasome is a composite of proteinases that are involved in the breakdown of specific intracellular proteins. ATP hydrolysis is a catabolic process that helps in releasing the chemical energy from the high-energy phospho-anhydride bonds in ATP. Energy is liberated by splitting these bonds.
